Starting point
The newly built 4* Natur & City Camping Ellwangen (nc-camping.de) combines overnight stays, catering and charging on a site with a limited grid connection. Eight AC chargers should serve guests – while the commercial kitchen, sanitary facilities and the rest of the site infrastructure run in parallel.
The medium-voltage connection is 180 kW. A photovoltaic system with 60 kW peak feeds in as well. The challenge is not only the total: power is split across several sub-circuits – including campers, charge points, the kitchen and sanitary areas with roughly 30 kW heating elements each. Both the site total and the limits of the individual metering circuits must be respected.
Why Edge with integrated load management
Purely cloud-dependent load management would be risky here: if connectivity drops, chargers and kitchen must not uncontrolledly blow the connection. NeLeSo Edge brings the OCPP server and load management to the site as an appliance – offline-first: the site keeps controlling even when the internet or cloud is temporarily gone.
The Edge device accounts for available total power and the split across sub-circuits. Charging power is adjusted dynamically when the kitchen, heating or other loads need capacity at the same time – and when PV feeds in, that headroom can be used for charging.
Operations on site
With more than 100 pitches and strongly seasonal occupancy, the load landscape changes continuously. Edge load management keeps the eight AC chargers part of the site energy system – not a parallel risk beside kitchen and sanitary facilities.
For the operator the solution stays manageable: one device on site, clear circuits, local control. No separate data centre and no dependency on the cloud being reachable exactly at the evening peak.
Outcome
Natur & City Camping Ellwangen can offer guest charging without overloading the 180 kW connection and the sub-circuits. PV, kitchen, sanitary facilities and chargers share the same site envelope – steered by NeLeSo Edge with integrated load management.
